BIOGRAPHY

British bass-baritone Ben Knight is a performer educational music facilitator and coach-mentor.

 

He has a warm and expressive voice as suited to opera as it is to song. He graduated from the Royal Academy of music with Distinction in MA Voice and was awarded the Harry Fisher Memorial Prize, Van Smit Prize and Highly Commended in the Blyth-Buesst Operatic Prize. Ben is a current Opera Prelude Young Artist (2022-24)

An engaging performer, Ben has featured as a soloist for the Academy Voices series whilst at the Royal Academy and a Live at Lunch recital soloist at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. He was also an Open Academy Fellow whilst at the Academy, working on many projects; collaborating with English National Opera, Glyndebourne and The Wigmore Hall. He also was awarded a Distinction in the Licentiate of the Royal Academy of Music. 

  

Recipient of the Singers Prize 2012, he spent two years at Guildhall School of Music and graduated from Bath Spa University in 2015 with a First Class honours degree BA in Music.  

Previous operatic experience include; Forrester (Royal Opera House Young Voices), Alberich (Royal Opera House Family Sunday), Freelance Vocalist (ENO Engage), Freelance Vocal Artist (Royal Opera House), Create and Sing), Monty - Under the Little Red Moon (English Touring Opera), Ensemble & Antonio (cover) in Rossini's Il Viaggio A Reims and Ensemble, Gazella & Petrucci (covers) in Donizetti's Lucrezia Borgia (English Touring Opera), Ensemble Aida (Royal Opera House), Opera Squad (English National Opera), Ensemble & Boyer Golden Cockerel (English Touring Opera), Alcindoro La Bohéme (English Touring Opera), Clemenes & Ensemble Ein Wintermächen, Ensemble Le Songe d'une nuit d'été & Edmea. (Wexford Opera), Captain & Ensemble Eugene Onegin (West Green House Opera),Dandini (Cover) & Ensemble La Cenerentola (British Youth Opera). Ben also performed in Opera Scenes at the Royal Academy, roles include; Don Giovanni, Collatinus Rape of Lucretia, Pappageno & Demetrius A Midsummer Nights Dream. 

Ben enjoys a busy schedule as a performer as well as using his voice to engage with communities across the UK. He was a Trainee Music Leader with Welsh National Opera/ Spittlefields in 2022 and is a current Create and Sing Vocal Artist with the Royal Opera House.

 

Ben is also a Career Coach for Creatives, the co-founder of InToto Music Collective, teaches undergraduate voice at Kings College London.
